KSB Group publishes preliminary figures for 2021

KSB very satisfied with business development in the 2021 anniversary year

  • Marked increase in order intake, sales revenue and EBIT
  • Impact of the tight procurement markets and global supply chains remains challenging

KSB, the Frankenthal-based manufacturer of pumps and valves, has significantly increased its order intake, sales revenue and EBIT in the year that marked its 150th anniversary. The provisional figures are all within the forecast that was revised upwards in the fourth quarter. The performance of the business is primarily due to the new market-oriented corporate structure implemented as part of Climb 21, and the focus on a higher-margin standard business and KSB SupremeServ business in spare parts and services. Additional tailwind came from the recovering global economy and customers’ increased willingness to invest again despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Order intake in the 2021 financial year rose significantly by € 268 million (+ 13 %) to € 2,412 million (previous year: € 2,143 million). Sales revenue also posted a strong gain of € 136 million (+ 6 %) to € 2,344 million (previous year: € 2,208 million). The General Industry and Water Market Areas account for the largest share thereof in terms of both order intake and sales revenue.

EBIT increased disproportionally relative to sales revenue and is mid-way along the adjusted forecast. The good standard and KSB SupremeServ business, on the one hand, which cushioned the lower volume of project business, and stringent cost management worldwide on the other, and the effects from parent company KSB SE & Co. KGaA’s cost-cutting programme, made a material contribution to this increase.

All Regions contributed to growth. The companies in Europe, which is by far the largest Region, achieved order intake of € 1,262 million (+ 8 %) and sales revenue of € 1,261 million (+ 3 %). The Region Asia / Pacific increased order intake by 17 % to € 580 million and sales revenue by 14 % to € 557 million. Order intake in the Region Americas amounted to € 398 million (+ 16 %) and sales revenue to € 377 million (+ 5 %). The Region Middle East / Africa / Russia generated order intake of € 171 million (+ 27 %) and sales revenue of € 148 million (+ 11 %).

“We are very satisfied with the past financial year and have exceeded the goals we set ourselves at the start of the year – despite the coronavirus-related restrictions and bottlenecks in the global supply chains,” says CEO Dr Stephan Timmermann. “The company’s market-driven orientation, a strong focus on the KSB SupremeServ business together with stringent cost management and KSB SE & Co. KGaA’s earnings improvement programme are taking effect. We can therefore look to the new financial year with confidence. We are once again striving for an increase in order intake, sales revenue and EBIT for 2022, even though the supply bottlenecks and surge in material, raw materials and energy prices will continue to pose a challenge.”
