Specific energy

The specific energy (Y) is the useful mechanical energy transmitted by the centrifugal pump to the fluid handled, per unit mass of fluid handled. It is expressed using the SI units Nm/kg or m²/s².

The relationship between the head (H) and the specific energy (Y) is as follows:

Y = g · H

g    Acceleration due to gravity
