KSB won the excellence award for “GE’s belief to Deliver results in an uncertain world”
Today, Indian Super Critical Power industry is in its most challenging times in terms of price competitiveness and order backlog. With only a few projects seeing the light of the day, we need to ensure to offer the most competitive solution to secure the projects in this extremely competitive environment and KSB is one of the major supplier who has played a key role by partnering in GE’s approach of offering cost effective solutions from India.
On the Supercritical power projects in India, KSB’s partnership with GE started with the Condensate Extraction Pump orders for Solapur and Nabhinagar Projects, which were offered and supplied from our Pune facility under license from KSB Germany. With GE’s help KSB India was successful in meeting the stringent qualification criteria of customer and qualify as a local supplier for these pumps.
Some of the challenges faced during the process were first to convince our principles on the need to transfer the technology to KSB India, since Supercritical technology was expected to drive the power market in India. During the execution of the order, qualifying local suppliers while ensuring the stringent quality requirements of the project were met was another big challenge.
After successful completion of supplies of Solapur and Nabinagar Projects, we were assigned by GE India the even bigger task of Indigenizing Boiler feed Water Pumps for Supercritical Projects. We were approached by the GE team to take this on as a challenge and to put across an industrialization plan meeting the highest standard of quality and full compliance to rigorous customer specifications.
KSB India accepted GE’s initiative as a challenge and with the team’s working closely, we were able to propose a localized BFP sourcing strategy which was acceptable to the customer. Here again the first challenge was to qualify as a local supplier since until now the Boiler Feed Pumps for such plants were always imported. With the support of KSB AG as well as the GE team we are proud to say that KSB India became the first qualified Indian supplier for BFPs.
This has helped KSB India to establish it’s footprint and to become the first pump manufacturer to design, manufacture and conduct testing of the BFWPs in India, which is a benchmark for us. KSB is now building a state of the art manufacturing facility for the manufacture of pumps for the Supercritical and Nuclear Power Plants at Shirwal. This facility will be ready by April 2017 and will have the most modern assembly and test facility for such pumps.
In India growth journey, GE has recently assigned KSB India order for Boiler Feed pumps for the prestigious NTPC Telangana (2x800 MWe) Super-critical project. The challenges are even more since the Pumps will be bigger in size. Also, we would further be strategizing to localize more critical sub components in India.
KSB India is now one of the three locations, in the KSB group which can manufacture these pumps and is prepared to cater to GE’s requirements of projects worldwide. Efforts are on from KSB India’s side to bring even more value to GE with valves, and services in due course with full range of localization.
In an Indian Supplier Conference held in Pune on the 15th March, 2017, GE recognized KSB by awarding a trophy for “GE’s belief to Deliver Results in an Uncertain World”. The award was received by Mr. Farrokh Bhathena and Mr. Rajesh Arora on behalf of KSB. Mr. Bhathena dedicated this award to the efforts of the entire team in Pune and our Zonal office in NOIDA.
