Advanced treatment

During the further sewage treatment (advanced treatment) nutrients (nitrogen and phosphate) are removed from the sewage water using a biological process with either chemicals or filters.

It relies on precipitants such as aluminium, iron and calcium salts to form hardly soluble compounds. Previously dissolved or finely distributed, readily soluble compounds are transformed to enable precipitation - meaning that they can be removed from the water by way of sedimentation, flotation, or filtration. The process serves to free the water of its residual solids content.
This stage includes:

  • precipitator - final clarifier
