Fluid dynamics appraisal of system conditionsWhere there's us, there's a way
 |
|
Various codes and standards describe pump arrangements for best operation.
In many systems the installation conditions for the pumps are not so ideal, and their performance will suffer. Lower efficiency, a higher risk of cavitation effects, as well as increased vibration and noise can be some of the consequences. Elbows fitted directly upstream (or even downstream) of the pump, eccentric reductions, diffusers, shut-off valves and expansion joints can all cause problems. Our flow computations are backed up by experimental measurements at KSB and at universities showing the magnitude and type of possible interactions.
This helps us pinpoint system problems - and provide you with the right solution.
Schematic 1 presents the ideal pump arrangement as specified by the Association of Insurers of Sprinkler Systems. Schematic 2 shows a fictitious, very unfavourable installation.
