Witnessed by representatives of the Spanish plant engineering contractor and the Cypriote plant operator, an inspector from "Lloyd's Register Inspection Ltd." certified one of the best efficiencies ever reached by a multistage high-pressure pump with cold water.
Each of the three HGM-RO 8/3 achieved an efficiency of 87 per cent pumping water of 20 °C. At its best efficiency point, this radially split ring-section pump type handles 1100 m³/h at a discharge head of 615 metres and a pump input power of around 2.1 MW.
The tested units are part of a supply package totalling 25 pumps from different series which will help the operating company reduce the operation costs of the seventeen-year-old desalination plant. Compared with their predecessors, KSB’s high-pressure pumps feature better efficiency and markedly lower energy consumption.
The desalinated water produced in the plant will be pumped to a national water reservoir close-by. As the Spanish engineering contractor has a prominent international profile and has successfully built seawater desalination plants all over the world, this first order placed with the German pump manufacturer represents a significant reference contract.
