Intake chamber design

Real-world solutions to minimise total cost

The inlet flow conditions play a major role in reliable pump operation. Of particular importance is the inlet flow to and design of the intake chambers

A correctly designed intake chamber provides a uniform, vortex-free flow to the impeller from all directions. Since there is a trade-off between equipment costs on one hand and construction costs on the other, a realistic solution requires a total cost approach encompassing both pumps and construction.

KSB's modular system helps select the best intake chamber for specific site conditions. The standard modules can also be used as the basis for customised designs.

To design and test these structures, KSB does extensive experimental investigation with precise scale models while ensuring that the conditions for hydraulic similarity are preserved.
