KSB Canada pedals for Betty, cancer care

Team KSB turned out in force on May 29 to support the Trillium Foundation’s Bike4Betty fund-raising Bike-a-thon for cancer treatment and care.

It was part of the pump maker’s efforts to foster team-building at KSB headquarters in Mississauga, ON with activities outside the office. Only this year, rather than play a round of golf or game of pool, the staff decided to do something to support one of the local community’s most important institutions.

“Over 90% of KSB’s staff turned out on a pleasant late-spring day, many with their families, because the point of the event – fighting cancer – has touched us in a personal way,” says Mike Blundell, president of KSB Pumps Inc. “Even in our Toronto-area office, we’ve had staff members directly impacted by cancer.

Bike4Betty sets up five routes – from 2 kilometers to 100 – near the shore of Lake Ontario in Mississauga to encourage participation by families as well as casual and serious long-distance cyclists. Participants line up pledges of financial support to supplement their registration fee. All proceeds go to the Trillium Health Centre’s
Betty Wallace Women’s Health Centre and Betty & Buster Lockwood Cancer Detection and Treatment Centre. Hence the name, Bike4Betty. It’s fun for the kids, with live entertainment and a barbeque, and an event KSB is proud to support as a corporate sponsor.  Team KSB collectively raised over $2500.
